Akili Academy of New Orleans is a Kindergarten through 8th Grade public charter school located in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans. Our purpose is simple and incredibly urgent: we exist to close the achievement gap for public school students in Orleans Parish.
With support from Building Excellent Schools and New Schools for New Orleans, Akili Academy opened in August of 2008 and currently serves 305 scholars in Kindergarten through 4th Grade. We will add additional Kindergarten scholars each year until we have reached our full capacity as a K-8 school in 2015.
In the Spring of 2011, Akili's 3rd grade scholars took the Louisiana iLeap assessment for the first time since the school's opening. We couldn't be more excited to announce that 88% of Akili scholars scored Basic or higher, the highest percentage of any school in the Recovery School District (RSD). Our Scholars surpassed RSD, Orleans Parish(OPSB), and Louisiana State averages in both English/Language Arts and Mathematics, where they were exceptionally strong:
- 94% of our Scholars scored Basic or higher in English/Language Arts, with 43% of scholars earning Advanced or Mastery scores
- 92% of our Scholars scored Basic or higher in Math, with 46% achieving Advanced or Mastery scores
